Burley and Slack Dual Language Scholarship Fundraiser
The LISD Bilingual Department in conjunction with the Community Cinco de Mayo organization provided the first Dual Language Award and Scholarship to two Lufkin High School seniors last year. The LISD Bilingual Department worked to develop the criteria for the award and Community Cinco de Mayo funded the scholarship.
Burley and Slack has committed to help raise funds for the scholarship to support our students who have been through our Dual Language program. We are excited about being a part of the future of our students. We plan on working with our local Papa John’s to raise funds for the scholarship. We will have a kick-off for our fundraiser at Burley on Friday, November 8 at 2:15. Information about the fundraiser and how you can help will be sent home after the kick-off.
Please call Burley at 639-3100 or Slack at 639-2279 if you have any questions. We are looking forward to a great event!
Student Early Pick-Up Parent Note
We need your help. Slack is experiencing an increasing number of students being picked up early from school. Our educational and instructional day does not end until 2:55 PM. When a child is called out of class early, it not only interrupts their education but the education of the rest of the children in that class. The teachers are now experiencing more than one of these interruptions during the day which causes an increase in lost instructional time.
We ask parents to try to make doctor’s appointments after 3:00. Parents need to send a doctor’s note if their child leaves school for an appointment. Students with more than 4 unexcused tardies and/or early pick-ups within a nine weeks will not receive perfect attendance rewards. Please help us make your child’s educational experience as rewarding as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 639-2279.

Please have your child to school by 7:30 AM in order for them to have time to eat breakfast and begin their day in class as normal as possible.
